God of the Turnaround

Unexpected Turn Around From Unexpected Place

Main Text: 2 KING 7:3-19

BACKGROUND
Samaria was the capital of the Northern Kingdom of Israel.

It was condemned by the prophet because of the rich culture and the pagan worship
throughout the city.

The first-century historian Josephus set the Mediterranean Sea as its limit to the
west, and the Jordan River as its limit to the east.

It’s now part of the West Bank under Palestinian control. Palestinians do not call it
Samaria today.

Jews hated the Samaritans.

Ben-Hadad - his name means “son of Hadad or false god.

A great number of men with horses and chariots were sent by the king of Syria to
the city of Dothan where Elisha lived.

They go to get Elisha. He knew they were coming. He told his men they were
coming. They knew they were out numbered, but Elisha had heard front he Lord
that He would make a way.

He prayed to God to open his servant's eyes, and the young man suddenly saw that
the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

When the Syrians were surrounding his house, Elisha prayed to God to hit them
with blindness.

God did exactly that and the men could no longer recognize him or the place. Elisha
offered to lead them to the man they were seeking, and the men followed him. He ledthem to Samaria. Then he prayed to God to open their eyes, and they found themselves in the heart of the capital of Israel, at the mercy of its king.

The king wanted to kill them. Elisha told him no.

He told him to feed them and them send them back to their king.

The king becomes livid and sends all of his men to besiege the city.

Favor. Despite the king of Samaria’s failure, lack of repentance and lack of faith
God was still going to deliver - undeserved grace.

Because the king couldn’t see it God used four unlikely individuals to bring about
the turn around.

Gehazi and his 3 sons.

Don’t count yourself out because of what you have been through or are walking
through.

The miracle of provision would not have been discovered had it not been for these
four men.

What you might be going through might be positioning you for your breakthrough.

Desperation will position you in places other people will miss.
