First Things First

First Things First

  • What does your daily life consist of?

    • Is your life made up of so many little, unimportant things or is your life centered around the big important things with all the little stuff falling in behind it?
  • What should take priority in your life. Its obvious that the most important should be money…….NOT!
1. God
  • Before you do anything else, you need to make sure that that God comes first.
  • Take a fish tank for instances. If you try to put all the small stuff in the tank first, then you will run out of room and there won’t be enough room for the big stuff.
  • Deuteronomy 6:5 - You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.
    • Look at your life as the fish tank and God is in the center of the tank. God doesn’t take up the whole fish tank but he determines what else can fit into your life.
    • Matthew 6:31-34

      • Look at anxiety as the tank overflowing. Basically, nothing else will fit into the tank so you begin to worry. If we seek God first then more thing will fit into our life and we won’t have as much worry in our life.
2. Family
  • This one is going to trip a lot of people up, especially those in church and ministry. Many people will put ministry and church above their families, but once again if you do that, your family will have a hard time fitting in the tank. You might end up without family in your life anymore if you fill up too much of the tank
  • Ephesians 5:22-29
    • Wive submit to your husbands as to the Lord.
    • Husband is the head of the family, God is head of the church
    • Husbands love your wife like Christ loved the church
    • If we love our spouse, we love ourselves.
  • Spouse over your children…….. Yea I said it
    • Ephesians 5:31
    • Your children will leave you but your spouse is one flesh with you for the rest of your life.
    • Until they leave, you are the head and they should take priority.
  • 1 Timothy 5:8
    • If we do not provide for our family, specifically our household, we are worse than an unbeliever

3. Church/Ministry
  • 1 Timothy 3:4-5
    • Ministry is actually the next priority after God BUT this scripture tells us that if we can not manage our families, then we aren’t ready for any other ministry outside of that.
  • Matthew 28:18-20
    • Our instructions from the Jesus are to go and make disciples. How often do we avoid this in fear that someone else might get recognition?
  • Hebrews 10:24-25
    • We need to build up one another and encourage one another.
  • Romans 12:5
    • We are different members but one body. We have to make sure the whole body is functioning properly.
  • Colossians 3:16
    • We need to teach and admonish one another. We need to also be of one accord as in Acts 2:1
4. Work
  • This is the one that we tend to put first because of money.
  • 1 Timothy 6:10
    • The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil
  • Hebrews 13:5
    • Be content with what you have
  • Ecclesiastes 5:10
    • Even in the Old Testament we see where the love of silver will not satisfy us.
  • Those are the cautions of money but we see need to make it a priority because he who doesn’t work doesn’t eat (2 Thessalonians 3:10
