The Tabernacle (The Altar)

The Tabernacle

The Altar

Text: Exodus 27:1-8
That I may dwell with my people.

The Lord said I want a place where people know they can show up and the glory would meet them there.

Altars are important.

Old church understood the altar - Sunday morning and Sunday night

We have great crowds but not encounters. We have lost the altar in most churches .

It’s not a picture of what is required of you - a sacrifice

but what should be required of you is now being done for you - Jesus became the sacrifice.

That was our altar

We bring a thanksgiving offering because of what was down for us.

Altar - an elevated structure on which an incense was offered up. ascending

Altar - a place of slaughter.

While one things is being laid down another thing is being raised up.

Jesus in the tomb.

When we come to the altar things die at the same time things come to life.

The would bring their bulls and lambs

Most people just want to bring the bull.

We want him to take care of bull.

Grate across the top for the sacrifice.

Hollow underneath so wind could catch the fire.

Have you ever rode by a good smelling restaurant.

Burger King - flame broiled whooper

The smell will draw you in.

There is an aroma to the offering that catches God’s attention.

Restoration Church has an aroma.

Some churches don’t have an aroma.

 No fire or no sacrifice.

Many people want the fire without the sacrifice.

The aroma of praise is what draws Him.

Horns

The horns of the altar - required on the altar - old school - grab ahold of the horns of the altar.

4 Things That Took Place At The Altar

1. Redemption -  to buy back for possession of. He came back at the altar and bought us back.

Let the redeemed of the lord say so!!

2. Ransom - coupon - the value of whatever the price is.

What was the ransom? His life forming mine.

God paid the value for you!

For Him to find your value, he had to reflect Himself. His sent His only begotten Son.

Substitution - to take the place of.

Someone who is thrown on the altar, but God allowed substitution.

We deserved death but the Lamb came.

Isaiah 53:5-7

Reconciliation - to balance

He reconciled us.

Throw the animal on the altar and tie it to the corners so it couldn’t run away

Blood for the lamb in the horns

The horns were pointed in all directions - North - South - East - West

The blood covers no matter where you are it can reach you.

Romans 12:1 - living sacrifice.

Reasonable service

What happens at the altar?

- Saved
- Healed
- Meet my wife
- Peace
- We brought our kids here

If you will just find your way back to the altar.

What does the altar do - one thing dies another is lifted up.
